Since 1475, La Rochère has passed down a unique glassmaking expertise within a factory renowned worldwide. Visiting it is like taking a journey through both the past and the future. Partly artisanal, partly industrial, its production of premium tableware and high-end glass for the construction industry places it uniquely at the crossroads of two worlds. In 2025, the company will present a special collection to celebrate its 550th anniversary… the details of which are still a closely kept secret!

La Rochère’s story began in Burgundy-Franche-Comté in the 15th century. Simon de Thysac, a noble glassmaker, settled in the Vosges mountains and founded the factory for strategic and economic reasons. At the time, this region of France was a major trade route between the North and South, Italy and the Netherlands, as well as being oriented towards Europe. Burgundy-Franche-Comté was also ideal for sourcing the raw materials necessary for glassmaking, such as wood, silica, and water.

Since then, surrounded by the vibrant forests of Haute-Saône, the company has continued its authentic and passionate approach to glassmaking in Passavant-La Rochère, making it the oldest glassmaker still in operation in Europe (and also the oldest private company registered in France). Its unique know-how is the legacy of several generations of men and women who shaped the glass and passed on their knowledge.

Mastering both ancient techniques and ultra-modern machinery, La Rochère captivates today’s audience by offering new shapes, patterns, and techniques every season, bringing to life the enigmatic and fascinating material that is glass. This magic is embodied in its products, which are sold around the world as emissaries of a French way of life. Acquired in 2021 by the family holding company Tourres & Cie, which also owns Cristalleries Waltersperger (Blangy-sur-Bresle), La Rochère is on solid foundations to accelerate its development in the years to come. Currently, the company is diversifying, particularly into luxury with bespoke creations (candle holders, glass stoppers, etc.).
